An Amazing Story

So there's this little cover band in the Philippines that mostly plays in hotels and bars. Musically, they're not all that great really... standard cover band material. They do have one thing going for them though... their lead singer. He sounds like a young Steve Perry from Journey. Okay, he sounds EXACTLY like a young Steve Perry.

Anyway, they start recording their poorly attended shows in hotels and they start uploading the clips to youtube just for fun. Nothing happens.

Fast forward a little while. The band Journey is experiencing a bit of a resurgence in popularity mostly because of the series finale of The Sopranos using "Don't Stop Believing". The guys in the band want to get together again but there's one problem. They don't have a singer.

You see where this is going. The guys in the band actually start searching youtube looking for someone who can do their songs. They find this guy and are blown away. They email him and guess what... the dude from the little covers band in the Philippines is now the lead singer for Journey. I'm pretty sure Mark Wahlburg made a movie about this with Jennifer Anniston at some point. Pretty dang cool story though! Read more about it at Journey's official website.

I changed the video above so if you watched it this morning, watch it again. This is a better rendition and it's the song "Faithfully" this time. If you close your eyes, this guy is better than Steve Perry and I think Perry might be the best rock vocalist of all time. Seriously.

It's too bad Steve Augeri's voice went bad. He was a great lead for them as well.

Yeah, I think I watched all of them... they're all pretty incredible. Jessica and I were watching them and just remembering how awesome Journey was back in the day. I need to go buy their greatest hits like right now.
